Wisconsin town enters race for Google's attention

In order to draw attention from Google, which recently announced plans to implement a one-gigabyte-per-second broadband plan, Appleton, Wisconsin renamed its main street Google Road, according to PostCrescent.com. The town has also developed a Facebook page that residents can use to highlight the need for broadband in the town. An event called Googlefest will be held if the town is selected by the company to show how eager residents are to welcome Google. The event will feature some of the town's traditions to make Google understand the true values and lifestyle of its residents. Appleton places a high priority on community and believes if Google understands its community; it will be more likely to select it. The town's businesses are especially anxious to attract Google to encourage economic development and opportunity in the town. The most extreme measures taken by towns to attract the attention of Google have come from Topeka, Kansas, which changed its named to Google, Kansa for the month of March, and Duluth, Minnesota, where some residents have sworn to name their children Google or Googelette if the company chooses Duluth.
