Internet service providers who offer high-speed broadband internet are likely to record revenues of more than $210 billion in 2010, according to Allied Business Intelligence.
As broadband technology continues to evolve and become more widely available, companies can offer more services to customers, which makes their product even more appealing. ABI also indicated that the increased presence of laptop computers and other mobile computing devices has made reliable networks essential for most people in the U.S.
“The higher speed of [Very high rate Digital Subscriber Line] broadband helps operators to provide more services such as video on demand and interactive gaming. That can help to generate more revenue for operators,” noted research associate Khin Sandi Lynn. “Some operators currently offering VDSL are Telus Canada, O2 Czech, OTE Greece and Tele2 Netherlands.”
Despite the constant growth of broadband internet, there are many in the U.S. that still cannot afford to purchase high-speed internet. The Federal Communications Commission is set to announce its National Broadband Plan on Wednesday. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has indicated that the plan will cover a majority of the regions in the U.S. without reliable or affordable broadband access.
